Syrian officials took part in a meeting of the Arab League on Monday (May 15th) for the first time since the pan-Arab organization suspended President Bashar al-Assad’s regime in November 2011, due to the violent repression of demonstrations which escalated into a conflict that left more than 500,000 dead and millions displaced.
