IDLIB (AA) – AHMET KARAAHMET/MEHMET BURAK KARACAOĞLU – 49-year-old Abdulsamet Diyab, who lost both arms in the airstrikes of the Bashar Assad regime in Idlib, wishes to spend the rest of his life with prosthetic support without needing anyone.

While living in the Khan Sheikhun district of Idlib province in northwest Syria, Diyab lost both arms, one eye and the ability to walk in an airstrike by the Assad regime in 2014.

Diab, who started walking again with the support of his relatives during the difficult treatment process, has not been able to do any work on his own for 8 years because he has no arms.

Married and father of 5 children, Diyab took shelter in a camp in the village of Harbanuş, in the north of the city, due to the intensification of the regime forces’ attacks on the district.

Trying to hold on to life with the support of her children and friends, Diyab makes a living with aid.

– “I’ve never forgotten that I lost both my arms”

In a statement to AA correspondent, Diyab said, “My brothers and their families came to visit us on the day of the attack. All of them were slightly injured in the attack. Shrapnel fragments hit my body.” said.

Indicating that his foot joints were damaged in the attack, Diyab said that he received treatment in Turkey for a while.

Expressing that he returned to his hometown after the treatment process in Turkey was over, Diyab explained the difficult days he had experienced as follows:

“I had no idea that I had lost two of my arms. I was constantly asking myself, did the doctors choose the easy method and cut my arms? At that time, while searching for a prosthetic arm on YouTube, I came across the video of my surgery in the health center. One arm was severed from my shoulder and the other one is missing from the elbow. My body was covered in blood. “I couldn’t recognize myself when I saw the video. I asked my brothers to confirm. I was psychologically relieved after seeing the video because the doctors had done what was necessary.”

– “I use the phone with my nose”

Noting that he was able to walk again with the support of his brothers, Diyab continued:

“I got used to the situation I am in, but now I need a prosthetic arm. I spend my day reading the Qur’an and listening to lectures. I use the phone with my nose. I turn the pages of the Qur’an with my tongue. May Allah make us among those who are patient, may Allah grant us the opportunity to visit the Prophet. I would like to return to our own lands and I wish to live the rest of my life in a good way. May God save us from this Assad regime.”
