Turkey’s Ambassador to Nouakchott, Burhan Köroğlu, was appointed as Temporary Chargé d’Affaires of the Embassy in Damascus on December 12.

Minister of Foreign Affairs Hakan Fidan notified Ambassador Köroğlu about his new position.

The Turkish Embassy, ​​located near Ravda Meyda, where diplomatic missions are concentrated in Damascus, Syria, continued to serve for a while during the period when the regime resorted to violence against peaceful demonstrators, but stopped its daily activities on March 26, 2012.

Embassy employees and their families also returned to Turkey with this decision.

The Consulate General of Syria in Istanbul continued its activities.

The Turkish flag was raised at the Turkish Embassy in Damascus and embassy activities resumed after 12 years.
