President of the European Council Antonio Costa also said, “The EU is ready to work with the Syrian people for a better future.” While making her assessment, European Parliament (EP) President Roberta Metsola emphasized that the next steps should be taken within the framework of “dialogue, unity, respect for fundamental rights and international law”. The first reaction from the EU to the collapse of the Baath regime in Syria came from the High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas.
Kallas stated that he welcomed the collapse of the Bashar Assad regime and announced that he was ready to work with all constructive partners in the region.
