Swordsman Yannick Borel, individual world champion in 2020, won the Budapest Grand Prix, the main event of the international circuit, dominating the Hungarian Gergely Siklosi in the final this Sunday March 10, five months before the Paris Olympic Games. Quadruple individual European champion (2016, 2017, 2018 and 2022), Yannick Borel scored his first individual victory in Budapest in almost two years, his last success dating back to the Cairo Grand Prix at the end of April 2022. He thus won the eleventh success of his career. In the final, he dominated Gergely Siklosi, individual world champion in 2019 at home in Budapest, 15 touches to 11. Among the women, Marie-Florence Candassamy took third place, beaten in the semi-final by the Hungarian Anna Kun, winner of the event. This victory for Yannick Borel in Hungary comes ten days after the resignation of the general manager of French men’s epee, Hugues Obry, after months of tension, replaced by his deputy Gauthier Grumier.
