Already last spring, they officially registered interest in hosting, then together with Liechtenstein. Since then, the neighboring country has disappeared from the equation, and nine potential Swiss host cities have been presented: Basel, Bern, Geneva, Lausanne, Lucerne, Sion, St. Gallen, Thun and Zurich.
Sweden also wants to host the European Championships in 2025, together with Finland, Norway and Denmark, and has submitted a preliminary application. The same applies to France and Poland. Ukraine has also expressed interest, but the Russian invasion of the country has put the application process on hold.
The deadline for submitting an official final application is 12 October 2022. The European Football Association (Uefa) will make a final decision on 25 January 2023.
