Nintendo Switch emulator Yuzu will pay $2.4 million in compensation to Nintendo and cease all operations.
Open source Nintendo Switch Tropical Haze, maker of emulator Yuzu, NintendoAs a result of the last lawsuit, it reached an agreement to pay 2.4 million dollars in compensation to , as well as to stop all its activities as a result of the damages it caused.
Switch Emulator Yuzu Shut Down and Heavy Damages Awarded
Nintendo’s legal actions against Yuzu came to light last week. Nintendo eventually took legal action against Yuzu’s massive activities. More than 1 million copies of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom have been downloaded completely illegally. Many of these pirate sites specifically stated that the copy was playable on Yuzu.
According to Nintendo’s lawyers, the defendant party, Tropic Haze, was second-degree responsible for the violations committed by the users who distributed Yuzu. In addition, in the case, Nintendo’s lawyers persistently and violently advocated for the emulator to be stopped due to the damage and loss of demand it caused.
After the weekend, Tropic Haze announced that they had hired a lawyer to respond to Nintendo’s lawsuit. They also announced that they would respond to Nintendo’s claims within 60 days. New documents show that the two parties agreed to $2.4 million in damages and a cease-and-desist order.
Tropic Haze also faced a warning not to operate with any source code from Yuzu. This means that Yuzu team’s 3DS emulator, Citra, will also be shut down.
