Julie puts her own spin on the songs she sings. And she certainly does not limit herself to the chansons. As a child she already had a great fascination with big band and swing music. “With my own music I try to build a bridge between New York, Paris and the Netherlands. I combine singers from the era of Frank Sinatra, Louis Armstrong and Edith Piaf, for example, with those from the current generation. Sometimes I rewrite the lyrics. But also I adjust the rhythm or the instruments used to give it a new sound. I make sure it sounds poppy, but with a big nod to the jazz and swing era.”
