Swimming: New world time by Sarah Sjöström in Rome: “Absolutely fantastic”

Yesterday, Sjöström won the 50 meter butterfly in 24.73, only three tenths off her own world record. It was also a competition record for the major competition Sette Colli, which was organized for the 60th time.

Sjöström usually has the competition as a stop and control mark before the major championships and has now received a good receipt for the Paris Olympics.

  • Sha’Carri Richardson’s mighty pick-up in the Olympic selection

  • American sprint star Erriyon Knighton cleared of doping – Wada can appeal

  • Sjöström has the world record in the 100 meter freestyle of 51.71 from 2017. Australian Emma McKeon has the Olympic record from Tokyo 2021 of 51.96.

    – I had a good feeling in the attempt and tried to build on it and managed to swim really well, says Sjöström.

“The plan is only 50 meters free in the Olympics”

The timing is so good that the questions about branches in the Olympics immediately came up.

    – Haha, I’ve received many questions about it, but the plan is to only swim 50 meters free in the Olympics, says Sjöström, who ends his time in Rome by swimming that event tomorrow.

Hong Kong’s Siobhan Haughey was second in 52.78. Britain’s Anna Hopkin was third in 53.53, just ahead of Michelle Coleman in 53.63.

    – I’m very happy with my debut in the 100 meter freestyle, since it’s a bit of a chore with a tenth to third place, says Michelle Coleman.
