Swimming: Katie Ledecky won her ninth gold – the best in Olympic history

It was Ledecky’s second gold in Paris and came on a special date for the American 27-year-old. It was on August 3 that she won her first Olympic gold in London 2012 in the 800 meters, a branch in which she now won her fourth straight gold.

– Every year on August 3, someone always posts a clip from my first Olympic gold and you get a reminder. When I saw that I was going to swim on August 3, I thought: “My God, now I have to get the job done,” says Ledecky according to AP.

It was a tough battle with Australian Ariarne Titmus (up to four Olympic golds), who beat Ledecky in the 400m freestyle, where Ledecky went away in the last hundred laps to win in 8.11.04 – against 8.12.29.

    – She has won this event since I was eleven years old and I turn 24 next month, which makes it absolutely outstanding. I feel honored to compete against her, says Titmus.

Opens to compete in additional Olympics

Michael Phelps with 28 Olympic medals (23 gold) is the only swimmer to have previously won an event four times in a row, the 200m medley, and now Ledecky has matched that feat.

Ledecky aims to be in the home Olympics in Los Angeles in 2028.

    – I take it year by year and I will keep at it as long as I have something left to give, says Ledecky.

Canadian Summer McIntosh, 17, signed herself in as one of the biggest stars in Paris by winning her third individual gold – the 200m medley.
