The 63 participants had to swim three rounds in the warm water (28.2 degrees Celsius) of the Seaside Momichi Beach Park. The pace was high right from the start. Van Rouwendaal positioned herself in front and in this way controlled the race behind the Australian leader Johnson, with whom she trains in Magdeburg, Germany.
