Sweden equalized against Finland.
Then a (!) Swede celebrated in a sea of Finnish supporters.
Now the Swedish supporter is hailed by an entire hockey world.
“What a hero,” writes a Twitter user.
It was a real shock when Tre Kronor won the hyper-important group final against Finland in the hockey World Cup on Wednesday. The match was played in Finland, and there was thus a clear majority of Finnish supporters in the arena, but no Swede in Tampere was ashamed of it.
Celebrated – as the only Swede
In replay photos that were cranked in connection with Sweden equalizing to 2-2 in the match, via Joel Kellman, it was seen how a lone Swedish supporter celebrated wildly – in a sea among Finnish supporters. The Swede was wearing a Tre Kronor shirt and the pictures did not show a single additional yellow shirt, and he was thus completely alone in the section.
It did not stop him from celebrating, and the pictures show that he stands up and cheers at the same time as all Finnish supporters are depressed. The images immediately spread widely on social media, and the Swedish supporter is now highly praised for his (daring) commitment.
“Alone is strong”, writes Tre Kronor on his Twitter account.
“What a hero!”
Viaplay spoke to the supporter after the match, and it turned out that he worked for a Finnish company, and that he was there with the company’s CEO in a sponsorship section. He was thus not completely alone, but he should nevertheless be praised for his commitment and his shyness – and that is exactly what he did on social media. The pictures of the Swede have been praised by just about everyone, and even the International Hockey Federation, IIHF, has shared the video from when he celebrates.
And in the comments, everyone is undividedly positive.
“Peaceful and harmony. A Swede can sit next to hundreds of Finns without fear, ”writes one user.
“This is cruel, hockey unites and we are all friends. This really shows how good neighbors Sweden and Finland are. Respect! ”Writes another.
“What a hero!” Writes a third.
