Swedish ski coach Mattias Nilsson seriously injured after collision

Swedish skiing is in shock right now.
The former national team coach Mattias Nilsson is being treated in a serious condition.
The 40-year-old has been sent to hospital after a head-on collision, writes Expressen.

He has extensive experience as a ski coach and has previously been active within the Swedish national ski team. But right now being cared for Matthias Nilsson in hospital after a nasty accident.

For the last three seasons, Nilsson was the ski association’s coach on site in Falun, but this spring he left the job. He has continued as a personal trainer for the national team skaters Calle Halfvarsson, Emil Danielsson and Eric Rosjö.

But he will be missed when the Swedish ski season makes its season premiere in Bruksvallarna this weekend. It was at the end of October that Mattias Nilsson collided head-on with a truck outside Sala.

He was immediately taken to hospital with serious injuries and is still there, several weeks later. The condition is described as serious but stable by the doctors, reports Expressen.
– It is tragic what happened and my thoughts go out to Mattias and his loved ones. I keep my fingers crossed every day that everything goes well, says Halfvarsson to the evening newspaper.

Nilsson has, among other things, suffered fractures in both his legs and is now supported by the entire Swedish skiing family.
– This is of course very sad and upsetting. Throughout the years, Mattias has been extremely appreciated in the skiing family, both among skiers and leaders. We are thinking of Mattias and his family and I have personally been in contact with Mattias’ next of kin, says the long distance manager Lars Öberg in a statement.
