Swedish robots from SAAB to Ukraine

They are so new that even the United States’ own army does not have them in its arsenal.
Updated GLSDB, smaller precision robots, are being delivered to Ukraine today.
And it is Swedish Saab together with Boeing that is responsible for the manufacturing.

There are four anonymous sources that for the newspaper Politico revealed that the new shipment is on its way to Ukraine.

Ground-Launched Small Diameter Bombs, or GLSDB, have a range of nearly 15 miles. It is expected to have “a significant capability for Ukraine,” said one of the US officials.

He adds that “it gives them a deeper offensive capability that they haven’t had, it complements their long-range fire arsenal”.

The weapon, developed jointly by Boeing and Saab, consists of a 113-kilogram precision-guided robot that is fired from the ground.

The US military has a similar air-launched version of the bomb, but one that can be launched from a ground ramp is not yet in the US inventory.

Already in February of last year, the Biden administration announced that Ukraine would get access to the new precision bomb. But before the new version was sent, the US military needed to test the weapon – and that took many months.

According to Politico informants, it has been important to the US that Ukraine get access to the precision-guided robots as soon as possible, and now they could soon be in place.
