“Big consequences”

Each year, 254,000 tonnes of pork are produced in Sweden, according to the Swedish Agency for Agriculture’s statistics. Of this, around 30,000 tonnes of pork is exported abroad, which includes bone products and fats for which there is no similar market in Sweden.

According to the trade association’s estimate, roughly half of exports have been stopped.

– More than 50 percent are directly affected when these countries close their markets. This will have major consequences over a long period of time, says Därth.
