Sweden’s Foreign Minister Tobias Billström (M) writes on Twitter: “Tonight, after some negotiations in Vilnius, we have reached an agreement with Turkey on Sweden’s membership in NATO, which means that the ratification will now begin. The Prime Minister and the President have shaken hands on the content”
“We have an agreement: Sweden joins NATO. After negotiations with Turkey, ratification will proceed as soon as possible. This will strengthen both Sweden’s and NATO’s security as a whole. A good as well as a historic day,” writes Defense Minister Pål Jonsson (M).
Social Democrats party leader Magdalena Andersson writes on Twitter that it is “an important and welcome message for our country.”
SD: Cautiously positive
The Sweden Democrats’ Aron Emilsson, chairman of the foreign contribution, tells SVT Nyheter that the party is “cautiously positive about a historic decision at a historic summit.”
– It has been important that the terms of the trilateral agreement are fulfilled and that it does not involve new commitments from the Swedish side that involve new changes in Swedish legislation in addition to those already made.

Sweden belongs in NATO and NATO becomes safer with Sweden as a member. Thanks to the Swedish people who so clearly stood behind the process.”
Nooshi Dadgostar: Shouldn’t join
The Left Party is adamant that Sweden should not join NATO, party leader Nooshi Dadgostar tells SVT Nyheter:
“We have always respected that there is a majority among the parties in the Riksdag for NATO membership. The process of becoming members could have been handled better while showing how badly NATO works.”
