The euphoria surrounding the Olympic gold, a sprained right hand and hardly any sleep at all.
There are some who speak against David Åhman and Jonatan Hellvig playing the beach volleyball EC in a few days.
– We have not made a decision yet. But we are completely exhausted after this championship, says Åhman.
They did not arrive at the gold party until half past four on Sunday morning. They were home again at seven.
At 11.30 they were on site at the Sweden Arena in central Paris to be celebrated by the Swedish Olympic Committee and to appear for more interviews.
The Olympic gold medal
With that background, the beach volleyball heroes see Jonathan Hellvig and David Ohman unreasonably fresh looking. The glow from the medals hanging around their necks is certainly contagious.
– An Olympic gold makes you feel a little better. I would guess that when we get on the plane home now, we will both pass out, says Åhman.

Symbolically enough, each medal also contains a piece of the Eiffel Tower, the iconic construction that served as the foundation for the spectacular beach volleyball arena in Paris where the blue-and-yellow 22-year-olds just experienced the most exciting weeks of their careers.
Unexpected message
It has been a complete discharge. For obvious reasons, they have therefore not had time to make a final decision about the EC in the Netherlands, which starts on Tuesday.
But a little eager to defend their EC gold, they are everything.
– It’s the European Championship after all. It’s still a big tournament. It is clear that we want to play, says Hellvig.

The question is whether they stand. First, they are going home to Sweden for even more reception and visits to various TV studios on Monday.
– We haven’t had time to sit still since we won the gold. People have pulled us here and there. We haven’t really had time to sit down and talk together, says Åhman.
Sprained thumb
In addition, Hellvig hurt his right hand during the Olympic final, where Sweden beat Germany in two straight sets. Does it hold up for games?
– Yes, I got a slap on the thumb. I think I sprained it a bit and it’s swollen up. It hurts quite a bit, says Jonatan Hellvig.
– We have to start by checking it out, says Åhman.

Coach Rasmus Jonsson says that a definitive decision about the EC will be made on Monday morning.
– We will make a decision then. The guys are going to join some morning studios and then they are going to the Mall of Scandinavia at one o’clock tomorrow afternoon (read. today). So we will have a meeting before then and decide how we will do it, says Jonsson.
