A 79-year-old Swedish man died on New Year’s Eve at El Cochino beach on Playa del Inglés in the south of Gran Canaria, writes the news site Sydkusten.
Beach staff rescued a woman in the water just before 11 a.m. on Saturday, who in turn asked for help for another person. A 79-year-old man who was lying lifeless in the water was brought up to the beach where he received cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
When paramedics arrived, attempts continued to revive the man, but he was declared dead at the scene, Sydkusten writes and refers to Europa Press.
The circumstances surrounding the death are now being investigated by the Spanish police.
