Swedish Elite Soccer on the “Snapchat agent”: “Must follow up”

The league organization Svensk Elitefotboll reacts strongly to Fotbollkanalen and GP’s review of the so-called “Snapchat agent”.
The situation must now be discussed with the clubs in the Allsvenskan and the Superettan.
– We have to follow this up, says sports manager Svante Samuelsson.

The soccer channel’s and GP’s review of the “Snapchat agent” causes reactions. According to a large number of sources, the successful Swedish agent has, among other things, exposed clients to unwanted sexual behavior.

– First of all, I was surprised. I have not heard of this perspective before in connection with agent activities and advising players. And then of course I felt a sense of sadness, says Svante Samuelsson, director of sports at the interest organization Swedish Elite Football.

Will you take this up with the clubs?

– Absolutely we will do it. We have also created a group in the spring where we discuss agent issues together with the association. Then it is important that this particular thing is not presented as if it is a common occurrence. I’ve never heard of that before specifically in the agent environment, so it’s a unique case.

New regulations

According to Svante Samuelsson, an important part is to spread information about the problem to the players via the clubs. He also highlights a new agent regulation from the international football association Fifa that will come in the autumn.

– We want to be optimistic and believe that the new regulations will steer the market in a way that makes business much cleaner and more transparent.

Not registered

The Snapchat agent is not registered as an agent with the Swedish Football Association and thus stays outside the system. Svante Samuelsson emphasizes the importance of players and clubs working with registered agents and hopes that in the future it will be possible to make it more difficult for agents to circumvent the regulations by letting colleagues who are registered sign deals.

– It is one of the keys in the new regulations, says Svante Samuelsson.
