Swedish Democrat Carina Ståhl Herrstedt New Governor in Gävleborg

Carina Ståhl Herrstedt has been a member of parliament since 2010, when the Swedish Democrats entered the Riksdag.

During her years in Parliament, she has been a member of the Social Committee.

– It is a historical appointment in that it is the first time a Swedish Democrat has been named a high state position of this kind, says Mats Knutson.

Sentenced for slander

Herrstedt has on two occasions been convicted of slander.

– At the same time, it can be a controversial appointment. Carina Ståhl Herrstedt has been in windy weather several times during her political career. Among other things, she has been convicted of slander on two occasions, says Mats Knutson.

In 2009, Herrstedt and her partner were convicted of slander against Fredrik Jönsson, active in the Swedish Communist Youth Association, for painting him as a criminal on his blog.

The following year, Herrstedt was again sentenced for slander. This time against Fredrik Jönsson’s father, Jan Jönsson, who was previously chairman of Sweden’s Communist Party. On the couple’s blog, the chairman was claimed to have stated derogatory about the mentally handicapped.

Carina Ståhl Herrstedt’s ordinance as governor and head of the County Administrative Board in Gävleborg County is valid from 1 March 2025 through February 28, 2031.
