The Swedish Defense Materiel Administration (FMV) has signed an agreement for the purchase of the hunting robot 99 Amraam to a value of around SEK 6.7 billion. The robot has long been part of the equipment on Swedish combat planes, first the Viggen and later the Gripen.

Counterparty in the procurement is the US government and it has been approved by the responsible US arms and security authority.

The advanced radar-seeking hunting robot, named Rb 99 by the Swedish Armed Forces, partially replaces older hunting robots that were sold to the USA for “further donation to Ukraine”, FMV writes in a press release.

“In the current security policy situation and with the ongoing increase in Sweden’s defense capabilities, the supply of additional ammunition to the combat aircraft is urgent,” writes Lars Helmrich, who is head of aviation and space equipment at FMV.

The procurement includes handling equipment, testing and evaluation of the robot.
