She won the entire IBU Cup last year.
Now Tilda Johansson, 24, is pausing her career.
“It’s heartbreaking,” she writes on Instagram.
Although Tilda Johansson missed parts of last season as a result of Covid-19, she stood for a huge performance when she won the entire IBU Cup. There was drama going into the final race, but after a big drama she was the overall winner, leading to chances in the World Cup.
Tilda Johansson’s shock message
Tilda Johansson was in the Swedish squad when it was the World Cup premiere in Östersund, but there the results failed. Once back in the IBU Cup, the bad results have replaced each other, but she was there when there were competitions in Martell as recently as this weekend. But for next weekend’s competitions, the talent is not there. Johansson announces that she is pausing her career indefinitely.
This is a result of a lack of motivation and joy for the sport, she writes herself.
“The past year has been extremely stressful, both physically, but mostly mentally. I have struggled a lot with the motivation, desire and joy for this sport. This has affected me psychologically, me as a person and my mood,” she writes.
“It’s heartbreaking”
Tilda Johansson believes that the whole thing is “heartbreaking”, but necessary.
“Elite sport is tough and I admire and look up to everyone in that industry. But, at the moment that industry is not the best for me and it’s heartbreaking, because I love biathlon. I don’t think it’s where I enjoy myself and feel at my best right now, at least it hasn’t been like that. I have given it a try, but I have come to the conclusion that now is the time to act and I will therefore take an indefinite break from biathlon to find myself again”.
However, Tilda Johansson is clear that she is not saying goodbye for good, but that she needs to find “the best version of herself”.
“What will happen in the future remains to be seen, but now I will focus on myself and make sure that I become the best version of myself! Thanks to everyone who believes, helps and cheers me on! I look forward to showing you Tilda 2.0”.
