The Swedish aid was supposed to go to strengthening the rights of LGBTQ people in African countries – instead, seven million went to organizations that try to “cure” homosexuals. This shows an examination from Dagens Nyheter.
In several African countries, it is illegal to be gay and people are also at risk of being subjected to violence and abuse by the police, according to the human rights organization Human Rights Watch.
– We will of course immediately contact our partners to discuss what may have happened and, if so, how this could have happened, says Ulf Källstig, head of the Africa department at Sida.
