In this case, the newly re-elected Turkish President, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, played on several levers. The delivery of fighter planes, F-16, to his country by the United States, the accession of Turkey to the European Union and the treatment of the Kurdish question by Sweden were at the heart of the negotiations.
