Sweden’s loudest library hosts a lunch disco

In libraries, it is usually customary to be quiet. If you happen to hiss, God forbid; play music and dance, then both librarians and visitors tend to hush loudly,

But not at Vänersborg’s library. There, the breach of the rules became a welcome event and the lunchtime disco a clear success

– We have a very kind library director who said yes when we asked if we could borrow the room, says Anne Ekstedt, public health coordinator Vänersborg municipality.

We know that many people are very happy to dance and sing and be together.
The library is a meeting place for many people, young and old.

The event welcomes everyone to participate and on Facebook people were invited to “sweat off to beautiful tunes in good company” The Lunch Disco has been inspired by similar events in Gothenburg.

– We thought the library was a good place, a neutral place, says Ekstedt
Many people are very happy to dance and sing and be together, she continues.

Reactions have been mixed

If someone wanted to sit in an armchair and read a good book in peace and quiet, how could it be combined with loud disco?
– It is clear that the reactions to the lunch disco were mixed, you can’t please everyone, says Ekstedt. But it’s about half an hour, so I think you can be lenient.
As far as I could see, no one was rude or angry with us, continues Ekstedt who, after all, is very pleasantly surprised by the great pressure to take a lunch-turn-around on the bibble.

Two birds with one stone

So you can dance and borrow a good book on the way home. Two birds with one stone.
– Absolutely! It’s a fun idea. Henrik and Anna admitted they were tempted to go to a lunchtime disco.
It won’t be too late now that you are approaching the fall of age, says Henrik and Anna agrees.
This time, it was disco music from a few mixed decades. However, we are no strangers to running slightly mixed themes. This was a test round, says Anne Ekstedt.

Several different organizations were behind the arrangement, including the Council for Health and Social Sustainability, Thyme, the Music and Culture School and Danspoolen.
