Sweden’s largest nuclear reactor is taken out of operation after fuel damage

Leksand extended the winning streak beat AIK

Oskarshamn 3 – which is Sweden’s largest nuclear reactor – shuts down for eight days.

– It’s unfortunate and we don’t like it either, but the fuel damage needs to be dealt with, it can’t wait, says Désirée Liljevall at the Oskarshamn nuclear power plant, to DN.

The reactor, which accounts for eight percent of Sweden’s electricity supply, will be disconnected on Friday. The fuel damage should have been discovered a couple of weeks ago. Oskarshamn 3, was also disconnected in December.

Johan Sigvardsson, electricity price analyst Bixia, says that the stop will probably not be too expensive for the Swedes. He says we will probably import electricity from Germany and that German prices have dropped 80% in 2023.

Sigvardsson also believes that Karlshamsverket will need to be connected.
