The decision came after many attempts to clean salmonella-infected stables.
Sweden’s largest egg producer has had recurring salmonella outbreaks in its stables in the past year. Before the salmonella outbreak, CA Cedergren had 1,182,500 animals at the facility, which corresponds to 20 percent of all laying hens in Sweden.

– We have tried to clean infected stables during ongoing production. It was not successful and now that we have reinfection we needed to do something different. Now the plant is being cleaned without any animals, says Katharina Gielen, head of infection control at the Swedish Agricultural Agency, to the newspaper ATL.
The Swedish Board of Agriculture is now giving up the attempt to clean up the facility.
In April, all deliveries from CA Cedergren had to be stopped after salmonella bacteria were found in the farm’s packing room. In August, 340,000 chickens had to be killed on the farm after salmonella infection was discovered in two stables.
