The moderate coalition, the Sweden Democrats, the Christian Democrats and the Liberals are getting 176 members of parliament. The Social Democrats, the Environmental Party, the Left Party and the Center Party are getting 173.
The Swedish parliamentary elections turned out to be just as tight as opinion polls previously indicated. The red-green team of the Social Democrats was in the lead when the door-to-door polls were published, but as the counting progressed, the right-wing team took the lead.
When the first party leaders dared to face their own in their election supervisors late at night, they stated that the results of the elections would probably not be available until Wednesday.
That’s what happened. The election authority announced at around 2:30 Finnish time that the preliminary result would not be available until Wednesday.
At that point, the vote tally showed the moderate coalition, the Sweden Democrats, the Christian Democrats and the Liberals had 176 parliamentary seats. The Social Democrats, the Environmental Party, the Left Party and the Center Party were getting 173 seats in the Diet.
Kristersson is ready to become prime minister
Prime ministerial candidate of the moderate coalition Ulf Kristersson announced that he was ready to form a government, even though the election result was not ready, and the Sweden Democrats became the largest party on the right. The moderate coalition is getting about 19 percent of the votes and the Sweden Democrats almost 21 percent.
– Sweden now needs a coalition. We can lead the change. In our country, there is frustration, fear of violence and worries about the economy. The polarization is too great in Sweden, Kristersson said.
Prime minister Magdalena Andersson As expected, the Social Democrats will retain the position of the largest party. It is getting more than 30 percent support.
– We will not get the final election result today. Now it is expected that all the votes will be counted. Our great democratic machinery will count all the votes, Andersson said, urging everyone to give the vote counting the time it requires.
Åkesson: Damn fun
According to the results, the Swedish Democrats are the winners of the Swedish elections. It becomes the country’s second largest party, and the largest right-wing party. Jimmie Åkesson didn’t want to comment on government figures on election night.
– Right now the situation looks really damn funny. It seems that the power is changing. But the situation changes all the time. That could change on Wednesday, Åkesson said.
He has made his party worthy of a salon. The position as the largest right-wing party gives Åkesson a good starting point for government negotiations, even though Ulf Kristersson has so far said that the Sweden Democrats have no interest in ministerial posts.
– We won’t find out until next week if the government will change. But what we do know is that we have run a fantastic election campaign. We have really challenged the other parties, Åkesson was happy.
