On Friday evening, the Junior WC in Ice Hockey was decided in Scandinavium in Gothenburg.
After a tough match, the Swedish junior crowns had to settle for a silver when they lost the gold to the USA by four goals.
The match ended 6-2.
The Czech Republic took the bronze after the scandalous match against Finland, which ended 8-5.
The search for receipt
American Gabriel Perreault scored the game’s first goal in the 17th minute of the first period.
Sweden opened the second period strongly and Otto Stenberg equalized, but it wasn’t long before the USA got their second goal. And a couple of minutes later – his third.
But with only a couple of seconds left in the second period, Jonathan Läkkerimäki scored Sweden’s second goal. There were no more goals than that for Sweden.
The next cold shower came just one minute into the third period when American Zeev Buium scored the USA’s fourth goal. The fifth came with barely four minutes left in the match and the sixth shortly after, when Sweden took out their goalkeeper.
Fighting in the final seconds
With 30 seconds left in the match, a bloody fight broke out between Hudson and Johansson. Several players were expelled.
The last time the junior crowns won a silver was in 2018 when they lost the final against Canada. Sweden has only boasted the gold twice during the JVM’s history – in 2012 and 1981.
For the past two years, Canada has won the championship, but this year they only made it to the quarter-finals where they lost to the Czech Republic 3-2.
