Sweden temporarily lowers fuel tax – at least SEK 1,000 for every motorist

Sweden temporarily lowers fuel tax at least SEK 1000

On Monday, the Swedish government unveiled a billion-dollar economic package to try to offset the cost increases in transport and housing caused by the war in Ukraine.

The total price of the package is SEK 14 billion, or about EUR 1.33 billion.

Sweden is temporarily reducing its fuel tax from the beginning of June until the end of October. According to government calculations, this means a reduction of about 12 cents per liter of fuel.

Sweden had previously decided to reduce the price of petrol by about five cents in May.

The Swedish fuel tax as a whole is close to 60 per cent, which is somewhat lower than in Finland.

The war in Ukraine, for example, has raised the price of petrol to record levels in Sweden as well.

– The rise in prices is unequivocally due to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, Finance Minister Damberg said at a news conference.
