Sweden misses the Olympics – after losing to Switzerland

It was a pleasant evening for Switzerland at home. The dream start was a reality when Ana Maria Crnogorcevic headed in 1-0 after just six minutes. A goal that was decisive.

This when the offensive problems continued for the Swedish national team. Many games were created in search of an equaliser, but although it was close on several occasions, they never managed to get a hole in their opponents.

Missing the Olympics for the first time

1-0 proved to be enough to defeat Blågult.

– It is incredibly heavy. This is not what we wanted. There are only heavy feelings now, says Johanna Rytting Kaneryd.

What makes the ball not sit?

– It feels like there have been a few games now when we haven’t been able to do it. Something is not right. We create enough to score today.

And the loss means that Sweden no longer has a chance to make it to the 2024 Olympics in Paris. It is the first time that Sweden has not been included in the Olympic Games since women’s football was included in 1996.
