Sweden lost after chaotic final seconds against Denmark: “Robbed”

Gottfridsson was filled with upset emotions afterwards.

– The judges said that Hampus was inside, I should breathe, not say too much, but take it easy. But a central defender pulls in a winger and they haven’t blown for it for 60 minutes so it feels very, very strange, says Jim Gottfridsson to Viaplay about the referee blowing because Hampus Wanne was inside the line in the goal yard with four seconds left.

Denmark had a goal disallowed after video review

The Swedish players with Andreas Palicka were just before mad that Magnus Landin’s 29-27 with 14 seconds left was approved, claimed that there were too many Danish passes and it was rejected after video review and the score was restored to 28-27. It took many minutes to sort it out and there was great palaver at the secretariat.

The clock was reset to 59.43 and Oscar Bergendahl had the ball in the goal for 28-28, but it was disallowed for overstepping by Hampus Wanne, who was judged to be screening Danish players. Bergendahl had an intense conversation with the judges afterwards about the controversial verdict.

Sweden started with Tobias Thulin in goal but Andreas Palicka came on.

Denmark’s monster suite expanded

It was Denmark’s 25th game in a row without a loss.

The last Danish loss came against Sweden in Scandinavium in September 2022. Since then, Denmark, who have won the last three world championships, have won 24 matches and played one draw.

Sweden has two matches left in the main round, against Portugal and Norway, and is second in the group that Denmark leads. The first two teams advance to the semi-finals.
