Sweden is sending a new support package to Ukraine

On Monday, Johan Forssell, minister of aid and foreign trade, presented a new support package to Ukraine. The support package is worth 380 million and focuses on supporting recovery for civil society.
– Our most important task is the powerful and long-term support for Ukraine – politically, economically and security-wise, says Johan Forsell (M).

Today, Aid and Foreign Trade Minister Johan Forssell held a press conference where he presented the government’s new humanitarian support package for Ukraine. He highlighted in particular the difficult humanitarian situation arising in connection with the floods in Nova Kakhovka.

– The government is increasing support for Ukraine. There are five parts; food and water, healthcare, protection and establishment of infrastructure, demining and support to civil society, says Johan Forsell (M).

SEK 380 million

According to Forsell, the value of the new support package amounts to SEK 380 million – which must be paid “as soon as possible”.

– Ukraine is Sweden’s largest recipient of aid, we are developing a new Ukraine strategy. From the government’s side, we are in very close contact with our partners, he says and continues:

– This package amounts to SEK 380 million, it is funds taken from the current year’s aid budget. It is extensive aid that is to be paid out in 2023. The ambition is for it to be paid out as soon as possible.

The new support must be counted on top of the previously announced support. According to the minister, the internal unrest in Russia also does not affect Sweden’s contribution to Ukraine.

– It shows how quickly things can change, but is now considered an internal event in Russia, he says.
