Sweden increases its armed forces News in brief

The ministers responsible for defense presented the defense budget for the next five years.

Sweden plans to increase the number of personnel in its armed forces to 130,000 by 2030, says Swedish public radio SVT. Currently, 88,000 people serve in the Swedish armed forces.

Defense secretary Pål Johansson and Minister of Civil Defense Carl-Oscar Bohlin today presented the country’s defense budget until 2030.

Defense spending will increase so that in 2028, Sweden will spend 2.6 percent of its gross domestic product on weapons.

The goal is to strengthen military units and improve their operational capabilities. In addition, Sweden’s weapon and spare parts stocks are being increased. Sweden also plans to strengthen its artillery, navy and air force.

15.10. Repair. The number of personnel will increase by 2030, not by 2025.
