Sweden in new NATO meeting with Turkey in March

Leksand extended the winning streak beat AIK

A third NATO meeting will be held between Sweden, Finland and Turkey on March 9 in Brussels, says Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Cavusoglu, according to Reuters.

Cavusoglu also says that it is not possible for Turkey to approve Sweden’s NATO application if the Madrid agreement established between the countries is not complied with.

Talks about Turkey’s ratification of Sweden’s NATO application have been at a standstill since the Koran burning outside the Turkish embassy in Stockholm in January. But a week ago, the Turkish foreign minister announced at a press conference that Turkey is ready to resume them.

For TV4 Nyheterna, Anna Erhardt, press secretary for Foreign Minister Tobias Billström (M), confirms that the meeting will take place on March 9 and that it will take place at official level.

The Swedish government hopes that Sweden will be able to be a NATO member for the NATO summit on July 11-12 in Vilnius.
