Sweden will contribute SEK 70 million to rebuild war-torn Ukraine again.

On Monday, the Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal announced that the reconstruction of the country is estimated to cost 750 billion dollars or 7,760 billion kronor. A sum corresponding to the Swedish state budget six times.

Sweden’s Minister for Development Aid Matilda Ernkrans (S) is present at Ukraine’s recovery conference in Switzerland. Now she announces that Sweden will contribute SEK 70 million in the reconstruction.

– This is a starting shot that shows Sweden’s continued commitment to Ukraine. It is important that the grant is distributed based on Ukraine’s needs and what they can take responsibility for, Ernkrans tells TT.

She emphasizes that Sweden is a long-term partner to Ukraine. Since Russia’s invasion began in February, Sweden has contributed approximately SEK 4.2 billion to Ukraine.

Organizers and participants at the conference have raised the need to lay the foundation for the reconstruction of the country in good time. An example is the successful Marshall Plan that contributed to Western Europe’s recovery after World War II.
