A Swedish man has been arrested and detained in Turkey on suspicion of fraud in the multi-billion class, writes Sveriges Radio s Ekot.

Today’s ETC was the first to tell about the man, who is suspected of having carried out the frauds via cryptocurrency companies. The company, of which the man was CEO, was active between 2019 and 2022 and had three million customers worldwide when it collapsed. It should not have had any operations in Sweden.

The customers had invested a total of billions, money that they lost. The lawyer Lars Olofsson, who represents around 2,500 plaintiffs in around 20 countries, tells Dagens ETC that it has caused great suffering.

– It is usually not rich people, but completely ordinary people who invested everything they own and have. As far as I know, three of my clients have committed suicide because of this.

The suspect is registered as an emigrant with the Tax Agency and has changed to a Turkish name and acquired Turkish citizenship.

According to Turkish media, the man denies any wrongdoing.
