Sweaty panic thriller in which you fight for survival in

The stuff that good survival thrillers are made of is often also the stuff that real nightmares are made of. Ideally paired with deep-seated primal fears of humanity. For some, it’s the fear of great heights in thrillers like Fall. Or the fear of the dark that creates the horror of Lights Out. A candidate who perfidiously makes use of another phobia starts on Amazon Prime today: the Fear of confined spaces.

Trunk – Locked in The title already reveals that someone is being locked in a trunk. Director Marc Schießer creates one out of this over 96 minutes Fight for mere survivalwhich restricts itself to its film location as much as possible – in order to create palpable panic among the protagonist and audience.

Trunk: Locked In on Amazon Prime combines survival with gripping mystery puzzles

It would be terrible enough if protagonist Malina (Sina Martens) simply had to wake up in a locked trunk and find a way out. But Malina’s awakening as a prisoner raises even more questionsthan just: “How do I get out of here?!”

First, Malina has to try to somehow piece together the events that have happened so far. Because she has her Lost memory and gropes in the dark. She now wears a mysterious Roman numeral on her wrist, and somehow her father also seems to be involved. But how and why is not yet clear to her.

But there is hope: Malina’s cell phone still works and is their only connection to the outside world. She has to call for help, uncover the mystery surrounding her kidnapping and prevent herself from falling into an even crueler fate at the end of the cruel journey.

With its trunk location, Trunk: Locked In is one of the most extreme chamber plays ever

Since the beginning of film history, directors have used the principle of the single location or chamber play to create a… unpleasant basic tension to ensure that all viewers. Trunk: Locked In has opted for one of the nastiest and most ambitious variants that this type of setting offers.

In single location films, the action is limited exclusively or predominantly to a single location. These are often individual rooms or apartments, such as in The God of Carnage or the snowy stopover in Tarantino’s The Hateful 8. This is what there is for the characters no escape and conflicts are becoming drastically worse.

If you want everything to be even meaner, reduce the dimensions of the action location. And then it becomes claustrophobic like in the car in No Turning Back or in the coffin in Buried. In the tight trunk in Trunk: Locked In the dimensions are even even tighter. In addition, the corresponding car moves without the protagonist Malina having control over the destination – a perfect recipe for racing hearts and breaking out in a sweat.

If you’re looking for a lot of adrenaline and survival, you can now treat yourself to the extreme dose with a subscription to Amazon Prime.
