SVT’s reporter in place at the ship: “The ship looks pretty extensive”

The underwater cable, which runs between Gotland and Ventspils, belongs to a Latvian radio and broadcaster and was reported injured on Sunday. On the same day, Swedish authorities launched an investigation into gross sabotage.

Säpo confirms that a ship has been seized and is anchored outside Karlskrona and that Swedish authorities are on board.

SVT’s reporter Erik Alfredsson is near the place in the Karlskrona archipelago where the ship is located.

– Right now it looks calm, but we must not come the very close ship, he says.

In the clip above you can hear SVT’s reporter Erik Lundmark directly from the scene.

Two explanations

According to former Lieutenant Colonel Joakim Paasikivi, there are two possible explanations for the cable break.

– There may be natural reasons like sea currents or it may have been caused by an external player. If it turns out that it was damaged by external operators, there are two more main alternatives.

– Either it is an accident where, for example, you have traveled carelessly or you have done it on purpose. This is what an investigation should come up with.

Anchor on the boat broken

One of the anchors on the boat has a broken escape. In pictures that SVT has taken note of from a user on the site Marinetraffic, the ship was photographed with the anchor completely. The photo will be taken on December 13 outside Canada. SVT’s pictures show that part of the anchor has broken.
