SVT’s foreign reporter on the debate between the UK’s prime ministerial candidates

Monday night’s televised debate between finalists Liz Truss and Rishi Sunak became very much about taxes and national debt. While Truss wants to see an immediate tax cut when and if she takes office as Prime Minister and leader of the Conservative Tory Party, Sunak believes that high inflation must first be tackled before tax can be cut.

– Here you see very different approaches and that comes out very clearly in the debate. This is where they clash the hardest and this is also where they talked the longest yesterday, says SVT’s foreign reporter Anna-Maja Persson in Morgonstudion.

Both candidates’ respective opinions came out in the debate, believes Anna Maja Persson, and describes the atmosphere as clear, exciting and almost overheated at times.

– Especially Rishi Sunak who has been accused of being a bit laid back, neat and stiff. He’s apparently been ordered to do the exact opposite and go all out on the attack with energy, and he did.
