SVT’s correspondent on the FPÖ’s win: “Maybe still a loss”

The only conceivable coalition partner, the current government party ÖVP, has signaled that they are not interested in cooperating with the FPÖ, says SVT’s European correspondent Christoffer Wendick.

– The desire to sit down as a junior partner in a right-wing nationalist government is very low. So yes, a win maybe still a loss.

Most likely right now is that the conservative ÖVP starts talks with the social democratic SPO while the FPÖ is given the opportunity to cultivate a martyrdom, according to Wendick.

– In that case, the FPÖ will continue to accuse the other parties of having formed a cartel to exclude the FPÖ.
