SVT expert Anders Blomquist says the only right thing about the giant conflict that is shaking the skiing world: “They have to act”

It has blown up into a storm in skiing.
Now SVT expert Anders Blomquist says the only right thing.
– Sweden must act forcefully here, he asserts for the television channel.

On Wednesday evening, the bomb hit the skiing world. When it was revealed that Sweden, along with seven other major skiing nations, had joined forces and could now leave the World Cup.

Threatens skiing

The Swedish television channel SVT, the Norwegian equivalent NRK and also the Finnish EPN report that a major conflict has shaken skiing to its core. It is about not being able to agree on the television rights.

The International Skiing Federation, Fis, has not managed to convince the eight major nations on how to sell the television rights during the World Cup. And that can now lead to the world’s best skiers breaking away and starting their own competitions, outside Fis and the World Cup.

Blomquist’s opinion

Now the SVT expert surrenders Anders Blomquist into the debate and appreciates that the national associations stand up against Fis.
– It is very good. I think you have to divide the issue into a few parts: One is how important the TV rights have become for all sports, the second is how the money should be distributed and the third is how the power looks like in the international federations, says “Blomman” in an interview with SVT.
– So I think it is good that you take on this conflict, you have to do that.

Blomquist thinks that there is a lack of democracy at Fis and that it is good that Sweden is one of the countries that speaks out.
– Power within international sports federations is a central issue. There are a great many confederations that are controlled by a small clique with sometimes, from the perspective of sports, questionable input values. So this is something that all federations have to deal with and I think that the Swedish Skiing Federation must act forcefully to create a better change, he says to the television channel.

But the ski expert is also convinced that a solution to the conflict will be found and thus an agreement in the end.
– You have to come to an agreement. These are such great values. Partly financial, but also from my perspective how the sport should develop. So you have to come to an agreement, there is no other way out, says Anders Blomquist in the interview.
