Certainly during the first days of the war, the northern towns and villages had a hard time, including Svetlana’s hometown. The city is strategically interesting for the Russian army and was therefore heavily bombarded. Chernihiv even briefly fell into the hands of the Russian army. “My house suffered a lot during the shelling,” she says, trying to swallow her emotions. In tears she continues: “I have no place to go back to, only God knows how it will go on now.”
