Sven-Göran Eriksson has had a very tough time lately.
Now the Swedish coaching icon opens up about his unknown illness.
– I know what I have, he tells Sportbladet.
Earlier this year returned Sven-Göran Eriksson to Swedish football again. The coaching icon, who is considered one of Sweden’s most successful, stepped in as the new sporting director of Karlstad Football.

“It did not work”
But he remains tight-lipped about what actually happened.
– I’m fine, actually. I know what I have and I have a disease. We are working on making it better and it is as it is. I have my good days, and some not so good days sometimes. I function quite well. There is a big difference between doing what you want and feel like doing and what you actually can do, he tells Sportbladet.
– Starting next week, I thought I’d try to watch some training sessions with Karlstad Football.

Most of all, Eriksson wants to talk about football and tells more about his new role as sports manager in Karlstad and what the plan looks like in the future.
– I was an advisor in Karlstad Football last year, this year I was supposed to be the sports manager, but then when I became unwell it didn’t work out. Before I was there every day. If I am to take on that task, I want to have the opportunity to work 200 percent when needed. It is not possible to do it at half speed, he says to the evening newspaper.

The 75-year-old has also followed how his IFK Göteborg got off to a nightmare start to the new Allsvenskan season. With Svennis on the coaching bench, “Blåvitt” conquered Europe and piled up Championship gold, but now they have started with three straight losses and not a single goal scored.
– I don’t know if I should offer any advice, I don’t know in detail what happens in IFK Gothenburg, but the most important thing is that you pull in the same direction, management, coaches, players, supporters, that you have something in common that you believe in . The board, the club management and the players believe in the coaches – keep them. As a coach, if you get the players against you, especially the most experienced ones, you might as well pack up and leave. Then it’s done, says Sven-Göran Eriksson in the interview.
Now we help each other and support “Svennis” during this tough time!
