Sven-Göran Eriksson enters the discussion and says what everyone needs to hear about Jon Dahl Tomasson: “He is a very…”

It took almost 100 days for the Swedish national team.
But now they have found their man in Jon Dahl Tomasson.
Sven-Göran Eriksson now says what everyone needs to hear about Sweden’s new national team captain.

Ever since Jan Andersson left the job as national team captain, Sweden has been looking for his replacement. It took just over three months and after many “no thanks” from intended coach names, the choice has now fallen on the Dane Jon Dahl Tomasson.

Tomasson’s career

As a player, he celebrated great success by winning the Champions League and Serie A with Milan, the UEFA Cup and Eredivisie with Feyenoord and the Bundesliga with Stuttgart. As a coach, Tomasson won SM gold with Malmö FF and comes closest from Blackburn in the English second division.

Now he will lead Blågult into a new era and rebuild the A national team from the ground up to reach the championship again. Much has already been said about Jon Dahl Tomasson as the new Swedish national team captain and what he can actually do, but now he gives up Sven-Göran Eriksson into the debate.

Svennis likes it

The former head coach knows very well what is required and gives his honest view of the new national team captain.
– He has the experience and the little I know him, he is a very nice person. He makes a good impression in interviews and it will certainly be good, I think so, says “Svennis” to Radiosporten.
– He is still young but nevertheless has experience from football at a very high level. He has played in Italy, the Danish national team and has done well as a coach in Sweden. Also coached in England, Holland and he was also vice-captain of the Danish national team.

Svennis, who many wished would become Swedish national team captain in the early 2000s, sees great potential in Tomasson. And knows exactly what the Dane must do to achieve success with Sweden.
– I think he prefers technical football, wants to build the attacking game from the goalkeeper and back line. We’ll see if it suits Sweden. It becomes important for him to use his experience and look after the material that he has. In order to win, you have to have good material and select the right players, then you have to decide on a system, says the coaching icon in the interview.
