One of Sweden’s most beloved artists has passed away. The singer, actor and entertainer Sven-Bertil Taube has died at the age of 87.

He may have had one of Sweden’s most famous fathers, but Sven-Bertil Taube found his way into the Swedish folk soul on his own. He certainly managed the father’s legacy, the songs, but he reached the audience mainly through his solid stage personality, artistic quality and ability to give depth and life to songs and performances.

Evert Taube father

Sven-Bertil Taube was born in 1934, as the son of Astri and Evert Taube. He made his record debut in 1954 with “Swedish folk songs & ballads”, in 1960 his first record came with new interpretations of Bellman and in the same year a record where he sang his father’s songs.

Sven-Bertil Taube also had a successful career as an actor. He spent a large part of his life in London, where he first came in 1969 to take part in a musical in the West End.

Vision impaired

In 2005, Sven-Bertil Taube’s vision began to deteriorate and was diagnosed with age-related changes in the macula. In the last years, he could not see the audience when he performed, and he only perceived the outlines of people.

Sven-Bertil Taube passed away in London on Friday 11 November.
