The situation of civilians in Hersonis is very difficult, says ‘s Europe correspondent who visited the city today Suvi Turtiainen.

– Russia is constantly attacking the city from the opposite bank, and civilian casualties occur practically every day, says Turtiainen.

Working as a leading doctor in one of the city’s hospitals Lyudmila Skriptsova tells that especially civilian patients with gunshot wounds from gunfire arrive at the hospital.

– Due to the shooting, our lights and water were cut off for a while. The operating theaters were out of use for the first few days. The situation here was really difficult, says Skriptsova.

According to Skriptsova, apart from the conditions caused by the war, the hospital’s staff work as before.

Director of the cancer clinic in Kherson Irina Sokur on the other hand, says that clinic employees live in the basement of the hospital, because Russia has bombed so many homes that they are uninhabitable.

– They are here because they need protection from bombings.
