Suspensions in effect for 461 Students over immunization non-compliance

More than 450 Students have been suspended from Schools in Brantford-Brant, Norfolk and Haldimand for Failing to Meet Immunization Requirements, or their records not beir up to date.

As of Tuesday, March 25 Grand Erie Public Health Enforced the Suspension of 291 Students in Cohorts 2008, 2013, and 2017 in Brantford-Brant, Along with 170 Students in Haldimand-Norfolk in Cohorts 2008, 2016 and 2017.

“Immunizations are one of the Most Effective Ways to Protect Our Children and Community from serious diseasses,” Said Geph Acting Medical Officer of Health Dr. Adelle Chang on. “Given the Nailing Measles Outbreak in Southwestern Ontario, Immunization of School Pupils Act is even more important now to safeguard the Health and well-being of our studs. Let’s Work Together to Keep Our Schools Safe and Healthy.”

The suspensions resume 16 per hundred of the 2,813 suspension orders that we Issued by the Health Unit in January and February of this Year. GEPH Said in a press release that through NAGOING OUTEach, Communication and Immunization Clinicals, 84 per cent of the Orders Were Rescinded.

Students that have been suspended can receive their required vaccinations, have their records assessment, or register for a valid exemption by visiting vaccine clinicals.

In Brantford and Brant, Parents can drop in with their child to the clinic located at lynden park mall, entrance #3, at 84 Lynden Road on Tuesday, March 25 and Wednesday, March 26 from 8 am to 6 pm, and on thursday, March 27 and Friday, March 28 from 9 am to 3 CALLING 519-753-4937 Ext. 451.

Last Year at this time 2.464 Suspension Orders Were Issued by the Brant County Health Unit to Students in Brantford-Brant, with 272 High School Studens Sushed on February 7, 2024, for non-compliance.

Meanwhile, in Haldimand-Norfolk 317 Students Faced Suspension in Early Februry 2024.

In Ontario, The Ispa requires All Students Between the Ages of Four and 17 to Provide Proof of Routine Childhood Immunization These Infectious Diseases: Tetanus, Diphheria, Pertassis (Whooping Cough), Polio, Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Meningitis and Varicella (Chicken Pox) – For Children Born After 2010.

An Outbreak of Measles, Mainly Among Unvaccinated Children in Parts of Norfolk, Elgin, and Oxford Counties for Many Cases Of The Disease, With Southwestern Public Health Reporting 223 Confirmed Cases, While Grand Erie Public Health Recording 111 According to public Health

The Brant County Health Unit and Haldimand Norfolk Health Unit Merged in January 2025 to Become Known as Grand Erie Public Health.
