The police stopped a motorcycle in Vänersborg and arrested two men.
Then a backpack was found – with a sharp bomb and a revolver, according to information given to TV4 Nyheterna.
An explosion is believed to have been averted and police are investigating links to the Wolfpack Brotherhood, sources say.
The spectacular police chase took place on the afternoon of August 20.
A motorcycle policeman would then stop another motorcycle, with two men on it, in central Vänersborg. But the driver refused to stop – and a subsequent pursuit began.
After a short while, the chased motorbike overturned. The police were able to arrest one man while the other fled on foot, and after an operation with dog patrols and a helicopter, another man was arrested.
But the case took a dramatic turn. When the police searched a backpack that the motorcycle duo was carrying, a sharp bomb and a revolver were found, according to information given to TV4 Nyheterna.
A large area had to be cordoned off and the police’s National Bomb Squad was called to the scene to defuse the explosive object.
“The item is in transit”
The two men, aged 28 and 35, were remanded in custody by the Vänersborg District Court for serious weapons offenses and serious offenses against the Act on Flammable and Explosive Goods.
– One has gone unpunished in the past, but the other appears to be somewhat criminal, says prosecutor Jonas Martinsson, who leads the case.
The duo are also suspected of preparing for public destruction.
– Since the object is in transit, on a motorcycle, you can imagine that it would be used in some way, and that is the suspicion that comes up, but I cannot go into it more at the moment due to preliminary investigation confidentiality, says Jonas Martinsson.
The top tier of the Wolfpack Brotherhood
According to information to TV4 Nyheterna, the bomb case is linked to the top layer of the Wolfpack brotherhood.
One theory that the police are investigating is whether the findings in the backpack would be used against a network that has its base in a nearby municipality.
– I cannot comment on that, says Jonas Martinsson.
According to the prosecutor, both men deny any crime.
– They don’t want to feel this bag.
