A detainee, who escaped from a prison in the Orne, is suspected, since the beginning of his run, of having committed two murders. What do we know about the file?
It is “potentially dangerous” according to the Maine-et-Loire gendarmerie. A man is actively sought in the Angers region, as announced by the police on Monday July 3, 2023. He is a prisoner who fled from Argentan prison (Orne) on June 20 and who, since the start of his run, has allegedly committed at least two murders and attempted to commit a third. What do we know about this individual? How could he escape? Who are his victims? We take stock.
Who is the prisoner on the run?
The authorities who issued the call for witnesses simply indicated that the man, originally from Reunion, was 42 years old, specifying some physical criteria, accompanied by a photo of the individual. The fugitive, with mixed skin color, is 1.85m tall and has an athletic build, with curly black hair. His identity has not been disclosed.
Why was he incarcerated?
The man was in prison for two reasons: first, following a 12-year sentence for attempted murder by a spouse or partner; but also for a three-year sentence for aggravated property damage. Furthermore, he had attempted to kill a prison guard with a hammer.
What is his journey since his escape?
The detainee managed to escape from prison on June 20 thanks to a temporary release he had obtained. He never returned to the prison centre. He seems to have taken the train in the direction of Angers. From there, the investigators suspect him of having been the author of the murder of a woman, his ex-spouse, found dead on June 22. On the 28th, he attempted to kill a pregnant woman in Chailland, north of Angers. 1er July, a man is found dead in his home and his car on fire. The fugitive is also suspected of the murder. The public prosecutor of Angers indicated that the individual presented a “dangerous criminological profile”.
How is the man tracked down?
It is around the north of Angers that research is concentrated. 52 gendarmes are mobilized in the area to try to locate the fugitive. Police are also mobilized to arrest him “before another tragedy”.
